Memorial Elementary students showcase ELA pilot projects in school committee meeting

A staff presenter explained the district tested ARC (which builds knowledge across units) and CKLA (which combines a skills strand with a knowledge strand). Third-grade students described writing assignments that required identifying theme and writing about a character, while fourth-graders presented books on animal adaptations and emphasized explaining evidence. "The book you have on your table are our final drafts," a student said.
Committee members praised the work and asked students informal questions about reading habits. District staff said the pilot results are being used to inform decision-making during the curriculum procurement and budgeting process.
