Parish updates: canal maintenance, waterworks training and senior luncheon registration

Canal maintenance: Jewell said parish public works has been cleaning canals in St. Rose and that some interior or wetland canals require specialized equipment (a marsh buggy). She said the parish maintains approximately 300 miles of canals and that cleaning frequency varies by canal — "some canals, you can come and clean once and come back in 5 years; other canals feel like they need to be cleaned every 6 months." Residents were asked to report canal issues in their districts to trigger work orders.
Waterworks billing training: Jewell said many new staff in the Waterworks billing office toured the intake and production operations to better answer customer questions about meters and water safety; she described a field demonstration of tapping a water line.
Senior Christmas luncheon: Jewell announced the parish senior Christmas luncheon for residents 55 and older will be Thursday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Edward A. Dufrin Community Center. Registration opens Nov. 26 via scpseniorchristmas2025.eventbrite.com, and the parish offered phone assistance at (985) 783-5000.
None of these items involved formal votes in the meeting; Jewell characterized them as routine service updates and community announcements.
