Parish President Jewell announced a $162,000 donation from Dow to relocate and rebuild the Spillway Outdoor Classroom closer to the Norco boat launch for improved accessibility. The outdoor classroom previously stood at Wetland Watchers Park but was destroyed by fire, she said.
"This is underway in, in Norco in the spillway, and it's thanks to a $162,000 donation from Dow that we are able to build this outdoor classroom," Jewell said. She added the new location, adjacent to existing 'swamp school' activities, is expected to be complete in the next couple of months.
Jewell framed the move as improving public access and noted that the original park's remoteness and difficult railroad crossing had contributed to closures and vulnerability. No permitting details or construction timelines beyond the "next couple of months" were provided in the report.
