Committee approves several license applications and asks staff to draft burial‑site preservation resolution

The Protection & Policy Committee approved a slate of routine licensing items and directed staff to draft a preservation communication for county burial sites.

Licenses approved included a Class A liquor and Class A beer license package for Quick Trip at 1027 West Mason and a Class B beer/Class C wine license for High Caliber Barbecue at 126 South Broadway; police reported no objections. The committee also approved a massage‑establishment license for Viva Spa at 1330 Bell after confirming residency/agent requirements were met. Staff reported monitoring of a separate premises with property and disorderly conduct referrals; police said they were working with the property owner to correct issues.

The committee voted to return a liquor license to the pool after an appellant withdrew a circuit‑court review and a judge dismissed the case with prejudice; staff recommended making the package available for reallocation.

On a separate agenda item, committee members asked staff to draft a resolution and communication to Brown County asking the county to create a joint committee to evaluate recognizing, preserving and protecting former Brown County poor‑farm and asylum burial sites on the grounds of the former Brown County Mental Health Center. Members said citizens and descendants have expressed concerns and that a staff‑drafted resolution would allow the matter to be discussed at the council level.
