Tehachapi swears in two new police officers; chief highlights recruitment and training

The Tehachapi City Council took time in its meeting to welcome and swear in two new members of the Tehachapi Police Department, Officer Christopher Manriquez and Officer Juan Garcia.
The police chief introduced the officers and described their backgrounds: Manriquez previously worked in the wind industry and decided not to continue climbing turbines, while Garcia came from ambulance/EMS work. The chief said both performed well in the Kern County academy and expressed confidence in their ability to serve and protect Tehachapi residents. Both officers repeated the oath of office and received congratulations from council members and staff.
The chief said the department has two additional open positions and that backgrounds for two more candidates have been signed off to attend the academy. During the ceremony officers introduced family members and participated in badge pinning and photographs. The chief thanked council for support of recruitment, training and equipment.
The swearing-in ceremony was presented as a ceremonial item on the council agenda and did not require a council vote beyond the standard acknowledgment and welcome.
