SAC Sewer Operations Challenge team places at national competition; board recognized members

The Sacramento Area Sewer District board on Nov. 12 recognized the districtOperations Challenge team and heard a presentation by David Lamer, maintenance and operations assistant superintendent.
Lamer described Operations Challenge, a skills competition run by the Water Environment Federation that tests wastewater and water operations teams in events including collections, laboratory, maintenance, process control and safety. He said SAC Sewer restarted participation in 2024 and that the team placed well at regional competitions this year and finished fourth overall at nationals in their division, including a first-place finish in the maintenance event.
Lamer named the team members (Nate Fuwa; Dave Avalos; Efren Gutierrez; Chris Ticker; Wendell Duncan) and described the training demands, cross-training across disciplines and the value of the program for professional development. He invited board members to observe practices; board members praised the team and encouraged continued participation.
The board recorded public praise from Darren Sewan and a general expression of appreciation; no formal board action was required for the recognition.
