Village leaders recognized Harlem High School—s girls flag football team Monday for winning the IHSA regional championship and advancing to sectionals, and presented a donation to the Helping Hands Pantry to support its holiday toy drive.
Officials read the plaque honoring the 2025 Harlem High School girls flag football team for a 15-4 record, second in conference, regional champions and sectional finalists, and named several student athletes. A coach or representative described growth in program participation—from 17 girls three years ago to 42 this season—and said the team produced an All-State second-team honoree.
Separately, the village presented a donation to Helping Hands Pantry, which the pantry representative said has partnered with the village for about 16–17 years and serves roughly 400 families per month. The pantry invited the public to a toy giveaway on Dec. 13 and noted toy donations are accepted at Village Hall through Dec. 12 during business hours. Mayor Johnson and trustees were listed among those who participate in the giveaway.
No board action or vote was required for the recognitions or donation; these items were presented during the communications portion of the meeting.
