Piedmont Community Charter board adopts wireless-device limits and shortens lottery application window

On Nov. 18, 2025, the Piedmont Community Charter Board of Directors adopted a schoolwide wireless communication device policy and approved shortening the lottery application window for 2026. Mr. Clark presented the second reading of the wireless policy, citing House Bill 959 (Session Law 2025-38) and saying the school will require students to secure wireless devices from 7:15 a.m. until dismissal, with limited exceptions for instruction, emergencies, special needs and documented health conditions.
"Based on HB 959 and the school's desire to limit disruption, this policy is established to help students thrive in a safe, respectful, and focused school environment," Mr. Clark said during the reading. The board voted to adopt the policy unanimously.
Later in governance, Mr. Clark proposed shortening the school's lottery application window from the current three months to two months (January and February). Staff explained that state law requires only a 30-day application period and that concentrating roughly 1,200 applications into January and February would allow registrars to run the lottery and use March for follow-up documentation, easing workload in April and May. The board approved the change, effective for the 2026 lottery, unanimously. Staff noted applicants who apply after the window will be placed at the bottom of the wait list.
