"Over 70% of our budget directly goes to the classroom," said David Lottzen, Superintendent. He acknowledged the district finance department and praised staff for managing the budget and daily operations.
Lottzen said auditors from an independent firm performed the review as part of the district's annual audit. He noted that independent audits are required by the state of Arizona and are submitted to the Arizona Auditor General. "Anyone can view the Auditor General's report on our website and see a breakdown of district expenses," Lottzen said, framing the audit and report as tools for public transparency.
Lottzen also said the district spends less than the state average among its peer districts on administration, which he described as including finance, human resources, payroll, printing and other services required to run a district. He framed that comparison to emphasize resource allocation to classrooms.
He thanked the finance team for their work ensuring students have resources they need to be successful and closed the brief update with an appeal to community unity: "In Higley, together we got this."
