U‑46 details campus renovations and new projects including Century Oaks, Kimball, Legacy and Larkin stadium plan

Brian Lindholm, chief of staff, and Dr. Anne Williams, deputy superintendent of operations, summarized construction milestones across the district. Highlights included interior renovations and a new stairwell at Kimball Middle School, progress on Kenyon Woods’ addition with mechanical and finish work scheduled to continue into winter, and substantial structural work (foundation and structural steel) on Legacy Middle School’s three‑story classroom wing.
Century Oaks Elementary was a focal point: the district received a site permit and began preliminary excavation and a temporary parking lot; staff presented a phasing plan that includes placing a mobile classroom complex of six classrooms on site and shifting bus and parent pickup to the southern lot beginning Dec. 1. Principal Cheryl Fredrickson has started notifying families and the district plans bilingual signage and additional staff to support traffic and safety during construction.
Administrators stressed they aim to complete the major construction phases before school resumes next August to minimize disruption and noted some work will continue next summer when students are not on site.
Separately, staff described the Larkin High School athletic complex plan (not funded by Unite U‑46 referendum bonds): the proposal includes a turf field, surrounding track, seating for more than 2,000 spectators, locker rooms, concessions, lighting and an updated sound system. A mandatory pre‑bid meeting drew more than 40 contractors, and the administration said it expects a late‑January or early‑February groundbreaking with work starting in mid‑February.
The district also previewed upcoming bid awards for electrical and general trades on several projects and answered board questions about schedule tracking, phased work and how enrollment and specialized programs will be managed at sites under construction.
The update concluded with a reminder that the board will receive additional project reports at future meetings and that staff are monitoring schedules weekly to limit impacts on instruction.
