Hamilton County proclaims Nov. 18 as “Gary and Jimmy Day” to honor two retiring sheriff’s deputies

The Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners opened its Nov. 18 meeting with a proclamation recognizing sheriff’s deputies James Rain and Gary Houston on the occasion of their retirement. The board “does hereby express its sincere appreciation and gratitude to deputy James Rain and deputy Gary Houston for their outstanding service,” and proclaimed Nov. 18, 2025, “as Gary and Jimmy Day in all of Hamilton County.”
Sheriff McGuffey and commissioners joined the brief ceremony. McGuffey called the two “incredible” and praised their long service, and commissioners thanked the deputies for their welcoming daily presence at county facilities. Deputy Gary Houston and a colleague identified as Jimmy Ray each offered short remarks thanking the commission, the sheriff and co-workers.
The board invited attendees to a reception at 1:30 p.m. and took a group photograph. No formal budget or policy action was taken during the proclamation segment.
