The Simsbury Zoning Commission on Nov. 7 approved directing staff to execute a contract with FHI Studio/IMEIG for an 18‑month comprehensive revision of the town’s zoning regulations. Commissioners requested that the consultant include stakeholder meetings with elected officials and that benchmarks (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) be shown in the project timeline; staff agreed to incorporate those additions before executing the contract.
The commission also approved two nominations to the Design Review Board: Jolene Benedict for another term and Bill Clegg to move from alternate to a regular member. The regular meeting calendar for 2026 was adopted, with adjustments for holidays.
In a special presentation near the meeting’s end, commissioners recognized Vice‑chair Diane Madigan (term ending Dec. 1) and Chairman Bruce Elliott, who is retiring after 18 years of service. Elliott offered brief remarks reflecting on his long community service and praised staff; Planning Director George was singled out as a key staff contributor.
Administrative actions approved at the meeting will enable the consultant contract to proceed with agreed scope additions, while the appointees will take their seats on the Design Review Board per the usual appointment process.
