Jackson County board approves warrants, minutes, license renewal and certifies school-election abstracts

Supervisors approved the publication/issuance of warrants totaling $457,535.67 (including a $94,000 DOT invoice), approved Nov. 12 minutes, accepted Veterans Affairs minutes, renewed a Class B retail alcohol license for Tadah Meats LLC, and authorized canvassers to certify abstracts for the Nov. 4 school elections for Easton Valley and Maquoketa.
At its Nov. 18 meeting the Jackson County Board of Supervisors completed a set of routine administrative actions.
The board approved the auditor’s request to issue warrants for the claims listing totaling $457,535.67; the auditor noted a $94,000, two-year-old DOT invoice (dump truck box for the engineer) accounted for a substantial portion of the claims. Supervisors also approved the Nov. 12, 2025 board minutes as prepared by Auditor Smith and authorized publication in the official newspapers.
The board accepted and placed on file Veterans Affairs Commission meeting minutes for Sept. 10, 2025 and approved renewal of a Class B retail alcohol license for Tadah Meats LLC effective Dec. 14, 2025 through Dec. 13, 2026.
Finally, the auditor reported on the second-tier canvass for city school elections held Nov. 4; because Jackson County is the control county for Easton Valley and Maquoketa, the board authorized themselves as canvassers to certify the abstracts, authorized the chair’s signature on certificates of election and directed Auditor Smith to forward abstracts and certificates. The Easton Valley result did not change and remained a six-vote difference; the time for a recount had passed.
All motions were made, seconded and carried by voice vote at the meeting. The board adjourned after brief updates on boards and commissions.
