Jackson County awards county farm lease to Anthony J. Rice after competitive bidding

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors voted Nov. 18 to award the county farm lease to Anthony J. Rice at $126,000 per year for a three-year term following an open, on-the-floor bidding process and verification of bidders’ financial documentation.
County staff presented financial-verification paperwork for several bidders before the auction-style portion of the meeting. Bidders Anthony J. Rice and Joe Beach raised offers in repeated increments until the high bid reached $126,000 per year, at which point the board recessed briefly to confirm financials. Chair Don Swinker announced the verified high bid and called for board action.
“Got a motion by Mike, second by Nyn to approve the lease to Anthony J. Rice for a $126,000 a year for 3 years,” Don Swinker said before calling for the vote. The motion carried unanimously.
Board members and staff said they would prepare paperwork and arrange signatures; the chair noted that the first payment would not be due until March 1. The board also advised winning bidder and staff to finalize the lease documents promptly so the agreement can be executed.
What’s next: staff will prepare the lease for signatures and the county will collect payments under the agreed schedule. The tape-recorded proceedings and the county’s completed contract will provide the formal record of the award.
