The Amherst County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 18 voted to adopt Resolution 2025‑14‑R asking the Virginia Department of Transportation to consider removing State Route 9017, the bus loop in front of the former Pleasant View Elementary School, from the state highway system.
County staff said the request came from property owners at 229 Dancing Creek Road as part of a minor site‑plan and improvement process tied to the owners’ previously approved special‑exception uses for the site. VDOT reviewed the proposal and provided no comments. Staff told the board that, if the board adopts the resolution, the matter will be forwarded to VDOT headquarters in Richmond for a final determination.
Mr. Creasy, who presented the resolution, noted the county typically does not have other former‑school bus loops slated for abandonment and said the state generally requires school access to front state‑maintained roads. Supervisor Chris Adams moved to adopt the resolution, and the board voted in favor.
Effect: The county will forward Resolution 2025‑14‑R to VDOT for final action. Any change to the state highway system would be determined by VDOT and state headquarters.
