CJCC presents inaugural Justice Awards to survivor-led task force, mobile detox team and peer recovery specialist

The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council used a combined session of the Flagstaff City Council and Coconino County Board on Nov. 17 to present its first annual CJCC Justice Awards to three local efforts tackling complex justice challenges.
Judge Ted Reid, CJCC chair, introduced the awards and described the council’s mission of cross‑system collaboration. The Collaboration and Partnership Award went to the North Star Task Force for a survivor-informed, multi-agency response to human trafficking, recognized in the meeting for arrests, expanded survivor services and community awareness. Detective Bethany Hyde (Flagstaff Police Department) and Michelle Rucker (Northland Family Help Center) were named as representatives for the task force.
The Innovation in Criminal Justice Award honored Stuck Community Acupuncture’s Mobile AccuDetox Detox Team, which delivers trauma‑informed auricular acupuncture treatments directly to shelters, treatment centers and justice‑connected settings; the presenters said the team provided more than 2,300 treatments to over 700 people in one year. Recipients emphasized collaboration and local healing models.
The Courage in Justice Award went to Amanda Gallegos, the family treatment court peer recovery specialist, praised for sharing lived experience to build trust with parents involved in juvenile court proceedings.
Speakers from recipient groups and CJCC leaders framed the awards as recognition of partnership, innovation and lived‑experience leadership in local justice work. The meeting concluded with a group photo of award winners and CJCC partners.
