Council OKs bid for three‑story live‑fire training prop to expand regional firefighter training

The Kirksville City Council approved a resolution accepting a bid from Drager Inc. for a three‑story class A multifunction live‑fire training prop and authorized the city manager to execute related documents.
"Our 1990 vintage homegrown burn building is long exceeded its useful life," Fire Chief John Cook said, calling the new prop "a critical piece that we need to be able to do not only better quality training for our own personnel, but be able to open it up to outside customers" and to serve as a regional training site.
Chief Cook said the city solicited bids per policy and sent invitations to four vendors but received a single responsive bid from Drager; he confirmed the prop includes two separate burn areas, high-angle rescue features and training configurations for search-and-rescue and ventilation.
Funding for the purchase comes from the city's capital plan; the chief said the project had previously been slated for the armory and was reallocated after the armory sale. Council members voiced support for the upgrade and approved the resolution on the council floor.
