Solon mayor proclaims October as Hindu Heritage Month; local resident thanks council

Mayor Edward H. Krauss presented a proclamation recognizing October as Hindu Heritage Month and commended local Hindu residents and organizations for volunteer work and civic engagement. Krauss described community activities such as food drives, clothing collections and local yoga events and said the groups "give back in so many different ways" to Solon.

At the meeting, Sachin Deshpande of Solon spoke during public comment to thank the mayor and council "on behalf of the Solon Hindu community at large" for the proclamation and to say city-level recognition is especially meaningful. Deshpande noted this year marked the second year that Solon city schools observed Diwali as a holiday and said the proclamation tells families and children "that their city sees them, respects them, and celebrates their contributions."

The proclamation cited contributions by Hindu community groups to food drives and other charitable work and the mayor highlighted recent partnerships with the fire and police departments and with the Cleveland Food Bank. No formal action was required to issue the proclamation. The council and administration offered additional congratulations to the police department for a community traffic safety award and shared Thanksgiving greetings to residents.
