Council approves surplus land sale and easement to Eversource, tables Beals Center contract; makes appointments

The Bristol City Council on Nov. 12 approved the sale of a surplus, landlocked parcel on Burlington Avenue to Keith McDonald (or his assigns) in response to RFP 2026-015. Council accepted a $5,000 cash offer; the purchaser must merge the parcel with his properties at 330 and 336 Burlington Avenue and assume all transaction costs, including survey, closing and public-notice expenses. The motion to accept the offer passed by voice vote.
Separately, council approved a resolution granting Yankee Gas Services Company, doing business as Eversource Energy, a nonexclusive perpetual easement to install, operate, maintain and repair gas lines at 5 High Street. The mayor was authorized to execute the easement documents.
On the contracts portion of the agenda, the council approved a $2,070,500 professional-services contract for Edgewood Pre-K design (reported in a separate article) but tabled a $2,158,000 contract (2C26-002) for renovations at Beals Community Center for the Bristol Burlington Health District. Council members said they were unfamiliar with the project scope and requested time to review details; a motion to table the Beals contract carried.
Appointments and internal assignments approved at the meeting included the appointment of Wylandale Clift, Esquire, as corporation counsel and Dante Tagorello to the Board of Finance (term through June 2029). The mayor also announced a rotating acting-mayor schedule and a set of council committee and liaison assignments.
Next steps: city staff will prepare closing materials for the Burlington Avenue sale; easement documents will be executed; the Beals Community Center contract will be returned for further review before final action.
