Old swim club site cleared in phases; borough identifies reuse options and sets target completion next fall

Public Works told council the Old Swim Club property is being cleared of debris and topsoil in phases. Staff said machinery seen on site belongs to private owners or acquaintances who are helping move material; the borough is not paying for that equipment.
"For the Old Hayden Swim Club, it continues to be cleared of debris and soil," Public Works said, noting that work is happening in phases and that a completion target is next fall. Staff said the topsoil nearest Chester Ave has been leveled and that additional work remains.
Council members and staff discussed possible future uses for the cleared site. The manager and councilors suggested options including a recreation center, police use, or other community facilities and recommended polling residents and creating a plan under the next administration.
Public Works said the borough will coordinate cleanup with public-works schedules and will avoid capital projects on the site until site-control, storage needs and equipment access are determined. The borough did not commit to a specific reuse; staff emphasized the need for resident engagement before finalizing plans.
