Trustees approved items 11a–l and p–q in a single motion with a waiver of the second reading on the grounds that many of the changes reflect statutory or CSBA model updates rather than district‑initiated policy changes. The motion to approve the grouped policies carried unanimously, 5–0.
During discussion, Board member Partizani asked the board to keep work on an AI roadmap in mind when considering policy language on academic honesty. ‘‘The definition of plagiarism may change based on the work that we’re doing’’ on an AI policy, she said, and suggested the conduct policy be revisited once the district’s AI guidance is developed. In response, staff agreed to bring pulled items back for further consideration.
The board pulled item M (policy 5131, student conduct) to remain as a first reading and to allow time to align any academic‑honesty language with forthcoming AI guidance. Trustees also moved to table revised board policy 5141.5 (mental health) while staff gather clarifying responses to board questions; that motion carried 5–0.
Board members discussed the role of CSBA updates — many of which mirror law changes or court guidance — and emphasized that more substantive policy changes (for example an AI policy) will require longer review and stakeholder engagement.
All votes and motions recorded for policies and pulls were made on the public record; staff said they will bring the pulled items and follow‑up responses back at a future meeting.
