The Farmington Public Schools Board approved the district's school‑of‑choice (SOC) recommendation for the 2026–27 school year on Nov. 18 following public comment and a roll‑call vote.
A public commenter expressed worries that choice students might be dropped off early and picked up late, that elementary students could be left unsupervised, and that discipline burdens could increase. Trustee Heinrich asked staff for data to test those claims.
Superintendent Dr. Coffin reported the district's analysis: chronic absenteeism rates were not higher among choice students and discipline data (close to 300 incidents reviewed) showed only one incident involving an out‑of‑district student in that sample. That information formed part of the board's deliberation before the roll‑call vote.
Trustee Heinrich moved to approve the recommendation; after discussion the board recorded votes by roll call. Trustee Angie Smith voted No; trustees Ron Rosinto, Missus Heinrich, Mister Walker, Mister Holt and President Terry Weems voted Yes; the motion passed.
The consent agenda that followed included personnel items and formalized Crystal Ballard's appointment as principal of North Farmington High School.
