City OKs $7.23 million guaranteed maximum price for new primate complex at Columbian Park Zoo

Claudine Loughman, park superintendent, asked the board to approve Contract Amendment No.1 with Kettle Hut Construction Inc. to establish a guaranteed maximum price of $7,227,692 for a new primate multi-species complex at Columbian Park Zoo.
Loughman said the project will include four outdoor naturalistic habitats, a primate management building, a meandering pathway, a small playground, educational interactives, hardscapes and landscaping. "The contract amendment establishes the guaranteed maximum price of this project as $7,227,692.00," she said, adding that Kettle Hut and their team were prepared to mobilize on-site in early December and that the project was slated to be completed in January 2027. The amendment had been reviewed by the city attorney and Loughman recommended approval.
Alex Gonzalez from Kettle Hut was present to answer questions. The board moved, seconded and approved the amendment by voice vote.
The amendment sets the project budget ceiling; detailed construction schedules and contractor submittals will follow procurement and contract-execution steps.
