Lafayette approves 9th Street drainage contract amendment and authorizes bids for multiple public works projects

The Lafayette City meeting on Nov. 4 approved a $29,000 amendment to the contract with Versus Engineering for 9th Street drainage and sidewalk improvements, authorizing changes after a geotechnical analysis showed infiltration was not feasible.
Jeremy Grenard, city engineer, told the board the amendment "raises the contract amount by $29,000, bringing the overall contract amount to $653,075," and recommended the board approve the change. The board approved the amendment by voice vote.
Grenard also sought and received permission to advertise the city92s 2026 utility emergency repairs program, which allows Waterworks and Renew to hire a contractor within about 24 hours of an emergency; bids are scheduled to open Dec. 9. He described the program as "the same program that we've been doing for several years now" and said the city has used it multiple times in the past year.
The board approved advertising for the Steel Site Road construction and intersection-improvement project, a partnership with a county developer to secure access approval from Ndot and the railroad off State Road 38. Grenard said the project would convert a three-legged intersection to four legs, include a new at-grade railroad crossing and provide access to the south side of State Road 38; bids are expected to open Dec. 16.
Separately, Lafayette Renew requested permission to advertise a sewer rehabilitation (CIPP lining) project for more than 18,000 linear feet with a 10-inch point repair, with advertisement planned for Nov. 21 and Dec. 5 and bids opening Jan. 6; the board approved advertising. Angela Andrews of Lafayette Renew explained the lining restores older clay pipe by installing a new interior lining.
Other routine actions at the meeting included a purchasing request to declare a 2008 GMC Sierra (city ID FDD96) surplus and approval of claims totaling $44,559,027.49. All motions were approved by voice vote.
The board did not make any new policy changes at this meeting; the approvals authorize contracting steps and solicitations that will allow the city to seek contractors and move forward with construction and rehabilitation work.
