Residents urge more transparency on Creekside finances; one speaker seeks limits on graphic holiday displays

Patricia Kovacs, who lives near Bridal School East, said she is worried about the finances of the Creekside project and the role of the Gahanna Community Improvement Corporation (CIC). Kovacs said a $5,000,000 loan tied to earlier CIC activity was paid off and expressed concern that land might be given to a developer rather than recouping city funds; she asked that the CIC’s role be explained at a future Citizens Academy session and sought more transparency about past studies and public review of the 2022 strategic plan.
Greg Bixler, who identified himself as a local business owner and parent, urged council to consider updating local regulations to address what he called excessive and inappropriate holiday displays. Bixler said some Halloween displays have become realistic and gruesome and cited concerns about children inadvertently encountering graphic scenes; he proposed limiting display duration, discontinuing display competitions and encouraging family-friendly neighborhood standards.
Council did not take immediate action on either set of requests at the meeting but councilmembers and staff acknowledged the comments and indicated those topics could inform future outreach, education or code-review work. Kovacs’s questions overlapped with the evening’s larger Creekside debate; Bixler’s request points to potential code or enforcement conversations between residents and staff.
