Mayor announced the Gahanna Division of Police received inaugural advanced CALEA accreditation without conditions; the council also swore in Mikaela Fulham as a police communications technician and lauded dispatch and command staff for the achievement.
Mayor Jadwin announced that members of the Gahanna Division of Police, accompanied by staff, returned from Jacksonville with the division’s inaugural advanced CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) accreditation, awarded without conditions.
The mayor and council praised Chief Spence, Director Becker, Deputy Chief Lawless and compliance program administrator Stacy Morris for leading a multiyear effort. The mayor said the award represents an internationally recognized standard and a four-year reaccreditation cycle with annual reviews.
Earlier in the meeting the council administered the oath to Mikaela Fulham, a new police communications technician, and several councilmembers welcomed her and commended the dispatch and radio room staff for rapid response metrics and training efforts. Chief Spence and Director Becker were on hand for the swearing-in.
City officials said accreditation required exhaustive documentation and on-site inspection and credited multiple departments (IT, HR, courts, finance and others) for supporting the process. The mayor noted the work continues, including future accreditation reviews and compliance maintenance.
