The Scottsdale Tourism Development Commission voted Nov. 18 to approve staff recommendations for three event funding requests tied to Westworld programming.
Staff told the commission there were a total of three events under consideration: two requests under the community event funding program (the Arizona National Quarter Horse Show and the Sun Circuit Quarter Horse Show) and one under the Matching Event Advertising Fund (the Arabian Horse Show). Staff said the Arabian Horse Show is "$30,000 under MEAF" and that the total recommended under the community event funding program amounts to $37,500.
A commissioner moved to approve the events as presented and another commissioner seconded; the commission approved the motion by voice vote (commissioners responded 'Aye') and no recorded opposition was noted during the meeting.
The commission did not record a roll‑call vote allocating named dollar amounts to each event in the public transcript; staff provided the recommended totals and will implement the allocations through the city's funding process. Commissioners did not attach conditions to the approval during the meeting.
Staff also reported that packet materials included the Smith's Bridal report and recent tax collection figures and said there were no other program updates on this agenda item.
Next steps: staff will process the approved funding requests and the commission will receive further updates and the Westworld strategic plan when managers return to present it in February.
