LaSalle County Nursing Home reports steady census, activity events; interim administrator to start

Britney delivered the LaSalle County Nursing Home's monthly operations report on Nov. 17, saying the facility's census stood at 64 with three recent admissions and one discharge. "We had trunk-or-treat with 11 vehicles participating," Britney said, summarizing October activities that included Halloween events, community outings to Starved Rock and collaborative monthly bingo with Friendship Village and Heritage Woods.
The report noted increased short-term skilled referrals from Northwestern Memorial for post-surgical care and a renewed demand for hospice transfers, with requests from Lightway's Hospice and OSF Saint Elizabeth Hospice creating a waiting list. Britney said hospice disciplines — including medical social workers, chaplains and volunteers — are visiting more frequently and that the facility conducted COVID and flu vaccine clinics for residents and POAs; pneumonia shots will follow a facility audit to determine resident interest.
Britney outlined staffing and quality efforts: two part-time afternoon CNAs have been hired and started orientation, the director of nursing (DON) continues recruitment and will run training on falls, dementia, a medication pass in-service and CPR classes. A new monthly weight-tracking report, developed with the dietitian, is planned as a performance improvement project to be presented at the January 2026 quarterly meeting.
On administrative matters, board members were told that Kathy Stines submitted a resignation effective Oct. 22. Don said the board arranged an interim administrator who will begin the next day. An operations presenter said the interim hire has "over 30 years of experience in nursing home administration" and has worked in interim placements before; that individual is not seeking a permanent position. Don explained the interim will be provided through a contract with Medbest (the transcript alternately spells the vendor "Medbeth"), which bundles salary, liability insurance and other services; the county will pay a fee and provide lodging, mileage and meal reimbursement.
The chair asked for a motion to accept the nursing home report; the motion was moved and seconded and the board voted to accept the report.
The board also heard a list of planned facility projects mentioned in the administrator's notes — new laundry and kitchen fire doors, sidewalk and room repairs, and a potential new bus — but Britney noted a page of the report appeared to be missing and said she would confirm project details for the board.
The board accepted the report and agreed staff will circulate the final documents and project clarifications.
