Wheaton parent asks board to address student meal costs on long away games

Hauger said her daughter spent about $368 on away‑game meals during volleyball season; roughly $138 of that total reflected times she covered teammates who had no access to funds. "Our daughter played on the C team, and we calculated that she spent a total of ... $368 on meals for away games," Hauger told the board. She said the district policy covers meals when there is an overnight stay, but many of the trips she referenced were long day trips to distant towns such as Rawlins, Newcastle and Buffalo.
Hauger said she reported the problem to the athletic director and finance office without finding a solution and asked if the district could create a fund or reimbursement approach so parents do not shoulder the full burden. Board members thanked her and said staff would follow up.
No action was taken at the meeting; trustees asked staff to get back to the parent with options.
