The Sioux City Council approved a package of routine items, moved forward with sewer rehabilitation plans, and removed a contested rezoning from the agenda in a meeting that recorded several unanimous 4-0 votes.
Consent agenda: The council passed the consent agenda 4-0. Items included the reading of Nov. 10 minutes; appointment of Sandra Bass to the Human Rights Commission to complete a term expiring 06/30/2028; acceptance of annual reports from the library and the museum; and several contract and payment authorizations (including permits for Metro Fiber Net to maintain underground fiber in the 4th and 7th Street corridors and a service-agreement amendment with Metro Electric for an EV charging station at the MLK Transportation Center parking ramp). Several construction and payment items were also approved, including authorization related to the transit maintenance garage parking lot and payment to Steve Harris Construction tied to completion of an audit for the Dodge Avenue reconstruction project.
Sewer rehabilitation: Council opened and closed a public hearing on plans and specifications for rehabilitation of the old Bacon Creek sanitary sewer. No members of the public spoke; the council approved the plans and specifications by a 4-0 vote.
Rezoning deletion: On item 9, an ordinance to rezone 3700 Jefferson Street (for which the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended denial), the petitioner addressed the council and asked that the item be removed from the agenda. The petitioner identified himself in the record as "Doll Fivander," saying he lives at 3400 Talbot Road and that neighborhood work had progressed. Councilmembers moved to delete the ordinance from the agenda and the deletion carried on a 4-0 vote.
Museum remarks: A representative who identified himself as Steve thanked the council for supporting the museum and related city cultural facilities and recounted a recent visit by a representative from Kosovo who was impressed by the museum and related services.
Why it matters: These actions advance capital work (sewer rehab), clear a contested rezoning from the agenda after the petitioner’s request, and implement routine administrative business, including a commission appointment and contract approvals.
What’s next: The Bacon Creek rehabilitation work proceeds under the approved plans; the rezoning item has been removed from the agenda and would need to be refiled if proponents pursue it further.
