Karen Perez elected board chair; Nadia Combs chosen vice chair in reorganization

Hillsborough County School Board members completed their annual reorganization on Nov. 18, adopting a resolution of appreciation for outgoing chair Jessica Vaughn and electing a new leadership team.
Member Combs nominated Karen Perez for chair; the board conducted the required nominations and voting process under Florida statute. Nadia Combs was elected vice chair after a vote read into the record by the superintendent, who announced each board member’s choice. The superintendent and board also reconvened briefly as the Hillsborough County Leasing Corporation to appoint officers, reappoint the superintendent as secretary‑treasurer and confirm the board members as directors of the leasing corporation; those motions passed unanimously.
Board members spoke at length in tribute to Jessica Vaughn’s year as chair and to thank her for community engagement and leadership. Vaughn, in turn, thanked colleagues and noted the board’s collaborative work on district priorities.
The new chair said she looked forward to working with the board and district leadership on continuing district priorities and community outreach.
