The Public Service Commission on Nov. 19, 2025, granted Lumos Fiber of Maryland LLC authority to provide facilities-based local exchange telecommunication services to enterprise customers.
Cameron Walton, appearing on behalf of commission staff, told commissioners that Lumos filed its application on Sept. 8, 2025, seeking to offer point-to-point high-speed data transport and local exchange services to enterprise customers. Walton said the applicant does not intend to provide switched local services and that staff had determined Lumos met application requirements and was in good standing with SDAC. Staff recommended granting authority and waivers of specified COMAR provisions.
During questioning, a commissioner raised whether this item had previously been before the commission and whether there were outstanding regulatory-authority questions; staff clarified the matter and compared it to filings by other fiber companies. After discussion the commission moved to grant the authority and the requested COMAR waivers; the motion passed unanimously.
The commission recorded the action as granting Lumos Fiber the specified telecommunications authority and waiving the listed COMAR provisions.
