Committee asks HR to verify coroner hiring and pay after member cites social media post

During the Nov. 18 DuPage County Judicial and Public Safety Committee meeting, Member Zay raised concerns in old business about a social media post that suggested a recent coroner hire was paid at a higher rate than deputy coroners.
Zay said the discrepancy, if accurate, would undercut the coroner's recent budget testimony about staffing needs and pay equity. "I hate talking about that a possible political hire was made at a much higher rate than what our deputy coroners are making," Zay said, and asked HR to provide the hire date and wage information so the committee could review the facts.
Chair Evans agreed staff would reach out to Human Resources and bring back information to clarify the claim. No HR representative spoke during the meeting, and no additional personnel action was taken on the floor.
The committee made no finding about the post's accuracy during the session and asked for administrative follow-up rather than immediate disciplinary or policy steps.
