Dr. Kamala stressed the district's emphasis on growth measures (typical versus stretch growth) and explained the MTSS framework and the district's early-warning and branching-minds platform that consolidates student data for intervention planning.
Committee members and teachers asked for grade-level breakdowns of declines in math proficiency and for clarification of the percentage of students "meeting" versus "exceeding" expectations; Dr. Kamala gave example figures (grades 3'8 ELA: meeting 41.4%, exceeding 5.7%) and agreed to update slide materials and provide more granular data to the committee. Elementary staff at public comment asked for more support staff and tier-2 intervention resources; district leaders flagged staffing, professional development and targeted behavior coaching (BCBA) as budget priorities tied to MTSS implementation.
The presentation concluded with a note that stage-2 capital planning and community feedback for the proposed unified elementary school remain on the schedule and that the district will host a community feedback session on Jan. 12 to gather input on conceptual designs.
