Hackett said Pinnacle Bank and Wilson Bank and Trust can accept check and cash payments and deposit funds directly to the county’s account; he reported that through Nov. 14 banks had processed about $619,000 in payments across 285 transactions. Hackett described the arrangement as equivalent to establishing multiple satellite offices at no government cost.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about how taxpayers would interface with the system and whether the arrangement would accept tax‑relief paperwork or credit‑card payments; Hackett said banks can accept checks and cash and that tax‑relief applicants would still need to present paperwork at the trustee’s office.
What’s next: The trustee said he is working with additional banks to expand the service; county staff will coordinate deposit and reconciliation procedures with participating institutions.
