Waupaca parks update: rec center expansion faces $200,540 shortfall; council formalizes naming rights for Fox Brothers fields

Parks and recreation director Laura Colbert told council the rec center expansion has experienced construction cost increases. Colbert said tabled figures show an initial overage of $355,000; subtracting savings and change‑order credits of $154,760 leaves a remaining overage of $200,540. She said staff are considering using leftover capital‑project funds to cover the shortfall and noted structural steel and gym trusses have arrived.
Colbert also presented a memorandum of understanding to formalize naming rights for Fields 1 and 3 at Swan Park to honor Sid and Oliver Fox of Fox Brothers Construction. Colbert said the Fox family has supported the city and that Fields 1 and 3 will be reviewed every 15 years; the council approved the MOU by voice vote.
Colbert noted the rec center construction will move inside as temperatures drop and that the city continues to track state reimbursements related to the project.
The council will consider funding options for the remaining overage as the capital budget and contingency planning continues.
