Waupaca council approves state grant application for River North multiuse trail

The Waupaca common council voted unanimously to authorize submission of a Transportation Alternatives Program application to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for a multiuse trail connecting Royalton Street to the River North neighborhood and River Ridge Natural Area.
Grant writer Greg Groman told council the trail is recommended in the city’s bicycle and pedestrian plan and would provide a safe off‑road alternative where Royalton Street carries high‑speed traffic. Groman said the state typically funds about 80% with a 20% local match and, if awarded, a municipal agreement would be presented to council around May–June next year. He noted the project would not be scheduled until at least 2029 and the city would add any required local match to a future capital improvement plan.
Council approved Resolution No. 1586 to enable the application; the roll‑call vote was 10‑0 in favor.
If funded, the municipal agreement and final match obligations will return to council for action.
