Beloit board welcomes Wayne R. Anderson as interim superintendent; he pledges visibility and targeted referendum planning

The Beloit School District Board of Education introduced Dr. Wayne R. Anderson as its interim superintendent at the Nov. 18 meeting, praising his decades of experience and prior service in the district.

"On behalf of the Board of Education, it is my honor to introduce and welcome doctor Wayne R Anderson who has been appointed to serve as the interim superintendent of the school district of Beloit," Board President Johnson said. The board highlighted Anderson's more than 40 years in education and his previous interim work in Beloit in 2022.

Dr. Anderson told the board he was "thrilled to be back" and described early priorities: increased visibility in buildings, frequent visits to elementary and secondary sites, meeting with building principals and conducting a close review of the district budget. He said a prospective referendum, if undertaken, should be targeted and transparent so voters know what money would fund.

"My goal is trying to get in all the buildings ... I start out each day at one of the elementary schools," Anderson said, and he pledged to collaborate with staff and the community to identify targeted needs. He also noted staffing and retention issues as contributors to academic challenges, and he urged efforts to retain quality teachers while recruiting new staff.

Trustees welcomed Anderson and thanked him for stepping into the role during a period of fiscal and operational challenge. Anderson said he did not come with immediate answers but would work with staff and the board to find solutions and steady district leadership.
