Lawrence Council swears in Franklin Miguel; city leaders call for service and integrity

Franklin Miguel was sworn in as a Lawrence city councilor during the Nov. 18 council meeting and received a ceremonial pin from the council vice president. The oath of office was administered publicly; Miguel repeated the pledge to support the U.S. and Massachusetts constitutions and the city charter and ordinances.
Council President Giovanni Rodriguez, who introduced Miguel at the start of the meeting, said Miguel will join the council in time to take “one of the most important votes of the year” and urged the public to support him as he assumes voting duties. Several councilors, family members and city staff attended the short ceremony and photographs followed.
Vice President Infante chaired the remainder of the meeting because Rodriguez is serving as acting mayor. The council moved promptly into its regular agenda after the swearing‑in.
The swearing‑in concluded the ceremonial portion of the meeting and preceded routine roll call, public participation and full meeting business.
