City staff and council discussed strategies to channel Flying Boxcars event attendees into downtown businesses, including event-specific maps, season-long wayfinding signage and QR codes.
Britney and other downtown staff described a Diamondfest map already in use for participating restaurants and a planned season-long map with QR codes placed near Meredith Park and other wayfinding poles. An unnamed Flying Boxcars representative explained the ballclub operates food and beverage in-house, uses some local vendors, and has formed a new foundation to donate tickets; the representative said the ballpark draws more than 200,000 people downtown and that the owners intentionally located the stadium to support the downtown economy.
Council members suggested partnership ideas such as themed recognition for players with Caribbean backgrounds to attract diverse crowds, hosting youth-council appearances at games, and using the boxcars' promotional channels to highlight downtown merchants. Staff and team representatives agreed to continue coordination on signage and promotional efforts and to provide further details as they finalize maps and pole signage installations.
