The City Council opened a public hearing and held the first reading of Bill 25-41, a proposal to annex approximately 105 acres located at 5740 West Republic Road and adjacent right of way.
Laura read the ordinance by title; Principal Planner Chris Taber reported the parcel contains a single‑family home, is primarily agricultural, meets Missouri standards for compact and contiguous annexation, and is within reach of the city's water and sewer services. Taber said, if annexed, the parcel would be zoned agricultural (AG) in accordance with City Code Section 435.010.B, which requires annexed properties be classified to correspond to the county designation or the use that most closely defines the land's existing use. Staff recommended approval.
The council opened the public hearing; no members of the public spoke and the hearing was closed. Councilmember Neal asked whether a new lift station would serve only the property; Taber replied that no study has been completed to locate the lift station and that the developer, not the city, would bear construction costs for any lift station or extensions. The item remains at first reading; council was reminded to address any questions to staff before the next meeting.
No final action was taken at the meeting on the annexation ordinance.
