Orange County Fire Authority Division 4 Chief Fetterman told the Villa Park City Council on Nov. 18 that his division responded to 23 incidents from Sept. 23 to Oct. 27, including 16 emergency medical calls and seven miscellaneous incidents such as odor checks and auto alarms.
"More cooking fires are reported on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year," Chief Fetterman said, and he reviewed basic kitchen-safety tips — stay in the kitchen while frying, use a timer, keep flammable items away from cooking surfaces, and cover a pan to extinguish a stove-top grease fire rather than pouring water.
Fetterman also announced he is retiring and said Chief Morgenstern will be promoted to division chief effective next Friday. He thanked councilmembers and staff for the opportunity to serve the city.
Council members thanked Fetterman for his service; no policy action or budget decisions resulted from the presentation at this meeting.
