Glynn County schools honored; four students named REACH scholars and Chamber pledges $70,000 for scholarships
Summary
The Glynn County Board of Education recognized several elementary schools for top performance and introduced four middle-school students selected as 2025 REACH Georgia scholars; the local Chamber announced $70,000 in scholarship funding for Glynn County seniors.
The Glynn County Board of Education opened its Nov. 18 meeting by recognizing several elementary schools for high achievement and introducing four middle-school students chosen as 2025 REACH Georgia scholars.
Assistant Superintendent Robin Hunter and others presented awards to CB Greer and St. Simons Elementary for distinguished Title I status and acknowledged Goodyear, Sterling and Golden Isles elementaries as reward schools for strong growth and progress. The board thanked school staff and principals for their work in classroom performance and student outcomes.
The board also introduced four REACH Georgia scholars — Mackenzie Amoni Collins (Glenn Middle School), Jalayla Combs (Jade Macon Middle School), Quinton Morell (Neidwood Middle School) and Chloe Knight (Risley Middle School). REACH Georgia is described to the board as a needs-based mentoring and scholarship program that provides academic, social and financial supports aimed at helping students graduate from high school and pursue postsecondary study.
Each student spoke briefly to thank family, teachers and the school system. "I just wanna say thank you for giving me this opportunity," one scholar said, describing the award as an important step toward college.
Ralph Staffins, representing the Chamber, thanked the board for the partnership and announced the Chamber will fund $70,000 in scholarships to Glynn County seniors this year. "This year we will be funding $70,000 in scholarships to Glynn County seniors going into college," Staffins said, adding the partnership extends beyond the scholarships.
The recognition and scholarship announcement were presented as part of the board's routine openings; no formal action was required for the presentations. The board and staff expressed appreciation to the Chamber and to the educators who supported the students.
The board expected to follow up on student progress and continue collaboration with community partners on postsecondary supports for Glynn County students.
