Mayor's Moment: Anniston to switch trash billing to 121 Disposal; city lists holiday events and openings

The host of the Mayor's Moment announced a change to Anniston's residential trash billing and shared several community updates.
Residents should expect invoices in December from 121 Disposal and will be able to create online accounts using the account number on the invoice, the host said. "Come this December, you will be receiving an email. If you do not have an email, you will receive it in your physical mailbox," the host said. The host added that the city currently processes payments but "come January, we will be paying through 121 Disposal." The host advised residents to use the account number on the invoice to set up an account before the payment transition.
The host also invited residents to apply for upcoming vacancies on several city boards by emailing a short statement about their interests; submissions will be reviewed and selections made by the office that produced the Mayor's Moment.
The host urged support for Anniston High School's undefeated football team as it travels to Deshler High School "this Friday" for the third round of playoffs. The host noted the trip is "about a 2 hour 40 minute drive" and encouraged community turnout.
For Thanksgiving, the host said Pottomanna Lodge will host its annual community dinner at the Carver Community Center on Thanksgiving Day and invited residents seeking fellowship or a plate to attend. The Anniston Police Department's toy drive is running through Dec. 23, 2025, with drop‑offs accepted at the police department, the host said.
The City of Anniston Christmas parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m., and applications to participate are available on the City of Anniston website and via Main Street's Facebook page. The host also said two grand openings are expected in December — a new Starbucks and a pump track — and asked residents to monitor the city's web and social pages for updates.
