County staff and Waste Pro representatives addressed multiple citizen complaints about erroneous bills, late notices and charges for additional carts. Waste Pro said mistakes do occur, that some customers had been billed for extra carts they did not have and that refunds were issued when errors were verified. Staff provided local contact numbers for billing problems and said the county will act as a liaison if issues persist.
Waste Pro explained cost drivers for bear‑resistant carts, citing higher purchase and maintenance costs and replacement frequency; representatives noted a commonly reported figure for the additional bear‑resistant cart charge and clarified the recurring additional‑cart fee is $7 per month. They also described a separate annualized cost number for heavy‑duty bear containers referenced in public comment; staff said the $240 figure had been discussed as an annualized comparison but clarified the monthly billing tier presented to citizens is $7/month for an extra cart.
County administration said it is developing a new subscription‑based recycling program with larger carts and every‑other‑week pickup on a tiered fee schedule; the program will require a minimum number of subscribers before it can launch. Staff said they will return with more details once they complete planning and coordination with the contractor.
Residents were given phone numbers for both the local landfill/Waste Pro and the county public works liaison to resolve billing or service problems. Waste Pro and county staff urged customers to call and promised to investigate and refund eligible errors.
