Board approves $74,000 chiller repair at Lake Creek High School

The Montgomery ISD Board on Nov. 18 approved a contract to repair three chillers at Lake Creek High School, authorizing use of bond funds for the work.
District staff presented two vendor quotes and recommended awarding the work to the vendor identified as TNR for a total cost of $74,000. "They are asking for TNR to do this work, for a total cost of $74,000," the presenter said. The repairs focus on coil work and applying new coatings intended to extend life and reduce leaks.
Board members asked about potential core or copper credit from the old equipment; the presenter said the credit question is still pending but that the quoted price includes the chillers. The presenter also said that with coil coatings and maintenance, the life expectancy of such equipment is commonly "8 to 10 years," with some units lasting longer and new components carrying a 10‑year warranty on covered parts.
Trustee Dennison moved to approve the purchase over $50,000; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board recorded that the motion carried.
Next steps include finalizing vendor contracts and scheduling the repair work; staff will report back on warranty and any salvage/credit for old components.
