The Andalusia City Council held the first reading of Ordinance 25-04, which would permit establishments already licensed to sell alcoholic beverages within the city limits to do so after 12 noon on Sundays.
Mayor Earl V Johnson read the ordinance and noted that, under state law, an ordinance must be taken up twice before a vote. "This is the first reading of that under state law," Johnson said. The council did not take a final vote; the item is set for a second reading at the next council meeting two weeks from this session.
No council debate on policy details was recorded during the first reading; council members may discuss and vote on the ordinance at the subsequent meeting.
