Copperas Cove swears in three council members; officials announce downtown roundtable and community events

Copperas Cove held a workshop meeting on Nov. 18, 2025, at which three new council members took the oath of office and staff announced a slate of community events and volunteer opportunities.
Municipal Judge Bill Price administered the oaths to Howard L. Hawke for City Council Place 3, John Hale for Place 4 and Dale Treadway for Place 5. Each repeated the statutory oath to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States and of this state," after which Mayor (unnamed in the transcript) welcomed the members and encouraged attendees to greet the newly sworn officials.
The swearing-in completes the roster of council members present at the workshop; the secretary’s roll call showed Council members Mary Yancey, Christina Strophis, Rita Hogan, Sean Alzona, John Hale, Dale Treadway, Fania Hart and Jack Smith as present.
During announcements, a city staff member identified as Ryan thanked Councilman Sean Alzona for his nearly four years of service and outlined several upcoming community events. The Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation will host a downtown stakeholder roundtable to discuss downtown opportunities and improvements on Nov. 20 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. (at the Cove Theater) and again on Nov. 21 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. (at the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation offices). The Noon Exchange Club will host a Feast of Sharing on Nov. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Civic Center; the announcement described that event as free to attend and dine-in only.
City staff also announced a Market with a Mission at Ogletree Gap Park on Nov. 21 from 4 to 7:30 p.m.; a fall cleanup sweep with Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful at City Park on Nov. 22 from 9 to 11 a.m.; and an inaugural Christmas in the Park celebration on Dec. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m.
A speaker representing the Friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery encouraged volunteers to assist with wreath preparation on Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Killeen Special Events Center and noted a wreath-laying ceremony set for Nov. 29 at 10 a.m., with wreath retrieval scheduled for January 2026. The mayor closed the workshop at 5:40 p.m., inviting attendees to remain for refreshments and meet the new council members.
Quotes drawn from the meeting include staff member Ryan thanking departing council colleagues: "I just wanna thank Councilman Alzona for an amazing, 3 plus years, almost 4 years of service," and the veterans' announcement that "everyone is invited" to prepare wreaths for the cemetery events.
No votes, motions, ordinances or budget actions were recorded during the workshop; the primary formal actions on the agenda were the administration of oaths to the three council members.
