Yukon approves SRB planning and engineering contract to fill staffing gaps

The Yukon City Council on Nov. 18 authorized a master services agreement with Smith Roberts Baldisch Wyler LLC (SRB) for planning and engineering services with a not-to-exceed amount of $273,866.06.
SRB representative Mister Wong told the council the task order will provide on-site support for community development: "The city planner function will be handled by Dakota Desai, and will attend city council meetings and do staff report work," and SRB will also provide an on-site engineer to support public works, conduct plan reviews, coordinate predevelopment meetings, and provide a construction inspector to perform periodic oversight and maintenance bond inspections.
Council and staff raised past gaps in inspections and institutional knowledge; SRB said embedding engineers and inspectors will create consistency and ensure plans for water, sewer and paving meet city standards. Director O'Neil and SRB clarified the scope applies to both residential and commercial projects, with some renovation work not requiring engineering review.
The clerk recorded affirmative votes from multiple council members and the agreement passed. Council directed staff to coordinate the on-site presence, set predevelopment meeting procedures, and incorporate the work into the next budget cycle for longer-term staffing decisions.
