Sunbury City Council opened its Nov. 19 meeting by honoring local veteran Richard Doherty, who the mayor said was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2025. The mayor read a press release highlighting Doherty’s volunteer work: over 1,600 hours on the Ohio Fallen Heroes Memorial, service at Mott’s Military Museum in Groveport, and long service with American Legion Post 457.
Richard Doherty spoke briefly and thanked the council for the recognition. Councilmembers offered their appreciation for his service and invited photographs.
Later in the visitor section, Tracy Whitaker from the Delaware Public Health District said the city now provides a drop‑off location for string‑light recycling at the municipal building and that the district is a collection site for newborn to size‑3 diapers through a United Way diaper‑bank program. Whitaker said flu season is winding down with steady, low hospitalization counts and invited residents to bring questions during clinic hours.
The council recessed visitor remarks and moved into committee reports and regular business.
